Oslo, Norway
We walked a zillion miles in the other direction today and did Froggner Park which contains all the sculptures of Gustav Vigeland. It is a most impressive and interesting place and I took lots and lots of pictures. Don decided that we should then walk back downtown and I finally put my foot down and announced that he could walk downtown but I was going to take the tram!! I’m quite happy walking but there are limits and my knees are really starting to bother me and I just didn’t want to walk any more! And it is a good thing because it must have been 5-7 miles back to downtown. Whew!!
We met some fellow Americans and had a nice little chat with them. They used to live in Oak Park but now live in Sarasota, Florida. They are traveling on their own too, so it was fun to compare stories.
Don was DETERMINED to go to the railroad station to see how we get the train to the airport and he would not be deterred. He has asked nearly every person in Norway how to get to the airport and today he needed to SEE the train!! E-e-e-eK!!!!!! Then after dinner tonight he made me show him where the tram stop is that we will take to the train station and now he just came upstairs, after putting our luggage in storage for a week, and he has again asked the front desk clerk about getting to the airport and she has given him a completely different set of directions. This just drives me nuts but there isn’t a thing I can do about it so………
I decided to get a box of candy for the staff to share as a small token of our appreciation for doing the laundry. It took us almost forever to find the store but it was worth it. There is a very exclusive French chocolatier shop just up the way from us and we went there to get the candy but we had a terrible time finding it. After going around and around the block, we finally found a gal who knew exactly where it was and we were within one store of finding it!!! You buy it by the piece, at about $3-$4/piece and we were able to get a nice selection in a most attractive package to give to the staff. We also picked up some roses for the head lady and she was thrilled half to death. Definitely one of our better ideas.
Tomorrow will be a long day, so I’ll sign off for now.
