M/S Polarlys
We continue on our southward journey and the scenery is beautiful but desolate. This morning I awoke and announced that I am now ready to come home. It is taking less and less time for me be away before I’m ready to return!! At least today I am finally feeling like a human being and am no longer even a little bit seasick.
We’ve made several more stops and we have disembarked whenever there was even 15 minutes in port. It feels really good to get out and wiggle around and breathe fresh air. At one port this morning it was raining and once again we left the umbrella on board, so we were wandering around getting soaked!! How dumb are we??
I’m wearing my new Norwegian sweater today and for the first time since I started this cruise, I’m warm…..actually too warm!! I told Don that I need to sit in the windows so I don’t get over heated in this sweater!!
One of the ships’ engineers came in to our room last night to fix our thermostat so maybe we could get some heat. We both think that maybe he did some good but it is still so chilly in our room that we aren’t sure! At 8am this morning they announced over the speaker that it is 11 degrees (52 F) and apparently they made the announcement because it is so hot outside today!!
Our dinner table has been changed and we had a delightful dinner last night with mostly folks from America, so we could speak English and actually have a conversation. We were served reindeer as an appetizer. It reminded me of proscuitto…..very salty and rather dry and chewy. We are regularly being given caviar (ick!) and Brie (yum!). So some things that are expensive at home are just very common place here and other things, actually most other things, are expensive over here. We had a Swede at our table last night and she was whining about how expensive things were in Norway as compared to Sweden. She’d die if she had come from the US!!! Today we stopped in a co-op and priced a ho-hum, regular man’s shirt at $55 and two plain white tee shirts at almost $30 for the two pack. YIKES!!
Things have definitely picked up today. We’ve had several stops where we could get off and wander around and the scenery is improving. We are seeing lots of waterfalls and the ship has taken us into a small fiord that was quite spectacular. We also are seeing sea eagles and they are interesting.
Must try to get this posted or it won’t get done today!!
